Before You Call
If you are having problems with your heating or cooling systems, please read the tips below before calling for emergency service. It may save a service call or help us to quickly diagnose your problem.
Gas Furnace - No Heat
- Check your thermostat settings to ensure the temperature control selector is set above the current room temperature. Make sure the system switch is on the HEAT or AUTO position. The fan switch must be set to ON for continuous airflow or AUTO if you want it to operate only when the furnace is on.
- Set the thermostat to its highest temperature setting to try to turn the furnace on.
- Check the air filter if the air flow out of your registers seems light. A very dirty air filter may be blocking air flow.
- Ensure all registers are open and nothing is blocking them.
- Inspect the power disconnect switch near the furnace.
- Look at your electrical panel to check the fuse/breaker for the furnace.
- Make sure the gas control valve to your furnace is open.
- Inspect your pilot light (Note: electronic ignitions will not have a pilot light).
- If problem continues, call us for help.
Oil Furnace - No Heat
- Check your thermostat settings to ensure the temperature control selector is set above the current room temperature. Make sure the system switch is on the HEAT or AUTO. The fan switch must be set to ON for continuous airflow or AUTO if you want it to operate only when the furnace is on.
- Set the thermostat to its highest temperature setting to try to turn the furnace on.
- Check the air filter if the air flow out of your registers seems light. A very dirty air filter may be blocking air flow.
- Ensure all registers are open and nothing is blocking them.
- Inspect the power disconnect switch near furnace.
- Look at your electrical panel to check the fuse/breaker for the furnace.
- Ensure you have fuel oil.
- Inspect your pilot light (Note: electronic ignitions will not have a pilot light).
- If problem continues, call us for help.
Air Conditioning - No Cooling
- Check your thermostat settings to ensure the temperature control selector is set below the current room temperature. Make sure the system switch is on the COOL or AUTO position. The fan switch must be set to ON for continuous airflow or AUTO if you want it to operate only when the air conditioner is on.
- Set the thermostat to its lowest temperature setting to try to turn the air conditioner on.
- Check the air filter if the air flow out of your registers seems light. A very dirty air filter may be blocking air flow.
- Ensure all registers are open and nothing is blocking them.
- Inspect the power disconnect switch near each outdoor and indoor unit.
- Check your electrical panel to see if the fuse/breaker for each of the outdoor and indoor units is in the on position.
- If problem continues, call us for help.
Heat Pump - No Heat
- Check your thermostat settings to ensure the temperature control selector is set above the current room temperature. Make sure the system switch is on the HEAT or AUTO position. The fan switch must be set to ON for continuous airflow or AUTO if you want it to operate only when the heat pump is on.
- Set the thermostat to its highest temperature setting to try to turn the heat pump on.

Heat Pump - No Cooling

- Set the thermostat to its lowest temperature setting to try to turn the heat pump on.
- Check the air filter if the air flow out of your registers seems light. A very dirty air filter may be blocking air flow.
- Ensure all registers are open and nothing is blocking them.
- Inspect the power disconnect switch near each outdoor and indoor unit.
- Check your electrical panel to see if the fuse/breaker for each of the outdoor and indoor units is in the on position.
- If problem continues, call us for help.
Gas/Oil Boiler - No Heat
- Check your thermostat settings to ensure the temperature control selector is set above the current room temperature. Make sure the system switch is on the HEAT or AUTO position.
- Set the thermostat to its highest temperature setting to try to turn the boiler on.
- Inspect the power disconnect switch near boiler.
- Look at your electrical panel to check the fuse/breaker for the boiler.
- Ensure you have fuel oil or ensure the gas control valve to the boiler is open.
- Inspect your pilot light (Note: electronic ignitions will not have a pilot light).
- If problem continues, call us for help.
Geothermal - No Heat
