Air Conditioners
Air conditioners vary according to their Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER). The current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) minimum standard is a 13 SEER air conditioner. The higher the SEER number, the less energy used, resulting in money saved on electricity use. We offer a line of air conditioners that start at 13 SEER and go up to 20 SEER. Depending on how much you use yours, a higher SEER air conditioner can mean considerable cost savings on your electric bill.
Other options are also available to provide even greater energy savings while improving your home's comfort level. We offer many models with advanced features like variable speed fan operation and two-stage compressors.
Heat Pumps
As an alternative to electric heat, heat pumps are very efficient. In the summer, a heat pump works similarly to an air conditioner. In the winter, it runs in reverse to warm your home. A heat pump system is matched with a backup heating source like electric heat for very cold winter days.
Heat pumps are desirable as they work to both heat and cool your home. They have Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratings (SEER) like air conditioners. They also have Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) ratings to measure heating efficiency. The greater the SEER and HSPF values, the greater the cost savings for the consumer.
We offer heat pumps with advanced features such as two-stage compressors and variable speed fan operations. These can result in more energy savings and increase the comfort of your house.
Fan Coils
A heat pump system requires a fan coil as its indoor component comprised of the heating/cooling coil and the fan. As the fan coil is made to be used with a specific refrigerant, it must be matched with the chosen heat pump or air conditioner.
Our fan coils can offer variable and multi-speed features. These slowly increase the fan speed to match your thermostat setting rather than turning on full blast. This prevents the cold air blow often felt with single speed fan coils and reduces noise pollution.
Gas Furnaces
Furnaces are rated by their Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE). Many pre-1990 furnaces have ratings of 65% or less, while the current U.S. minimum is 80%. Today's new high efficiency furnaces can result in up to 50% savings in usage costs over 10-year-old furnaces.
Our furnaces start at 80% AFUE and go up to 96.6% AFUE, which is very efficient. Higher AFUE rated furnaces can result in significant gas cost savings depending on your average usage.
Our furnaces include products with variable and multi-speed features. These slowly ramp up to the thermostat setting rather than turning on full blast. This prevents the cold air blow often felt with single speed furnaces and noticeably decreases system noise.
Oil Furnaces
Like gas furnaces, oil furnaces are rated by their Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE). Our products start at 80% AFUE. They use no. 2 fuel oil that is burned in a sealed chamber connected to a heat exchanger.
Packaged Units
Our inclusive line of self-contained package units includes: packaged air conditioners, packaged heat pumps, packaged gas furnaces and air conditioners and packaged hybrid heat systems. Like individual components, package units carry SEER, AFUE and HSPF ratings. The greater the rating, the more energy efficient the system is and the greater the energy savings.
The products are located outside the home, mounted on the roof or ground and ducted into the home. We offer advanced features including two-stage compressors, variable speed fans and reduced-noise operation.
Hybrid Systems
A hybrid heat system uses intelligent control of both electric and gas heating to provide an intuitive system that reacts to variable conditions. This is in contrast to traditional cooling and heating systems where cost savings are really only attainable through less use.
According to the outside temperature, a hybrid heat system automatically selects the most efficient fuel source, meaning your home stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer, while providing cost savings throughout the year.
To create a hybrid heat system for your specific use, our professionals match a natural gas furnace with one of our heat pump units. Give us a call and we can tell you how much energy you can save over your existing system.
Geothermal Systems
Geothermal units operate using the Earth's heat. The Earth absorbs almost half of all solar energy, resulting in an underground constant temperature of 50°F to 70°F depending on geographical location. Geothermal units use this constant temperature for heating and cooling.
There are many advantages to installing a geothermal unit. You can see up to 60% in energy savings versus traditional heating systems. Hot water, air conditioning and heating can all be produced by the same unit. Also, there is no flame, no flue, no loud outdoor equipment and no odours.
Duct-free Systems
We offer several through-the-wall Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC) and duct-free heating and cooling systems. Duct-free systems make individual rooms or small spaces more comfortable. These systems also follow SEER and HSPF ratings, meaning the higher the rating, the more efficient and the greater the energy savings.
Standby Power Generators
When power from a gas or electric utility goes out, a standby generator can maintain the comfort and safety of your home. Standby generators supply completely automatic backup power sources during power outages, allowing residents to maintain relatively normal lives during these types of inconveniences.
Whether you are home or not, a standby generator automatically turns on when the power is out and shuts off when power is restored.
Air Cleaners
Nothing is more important than the clean air you breathe. Air cleaners remove pollen, bacteria, animal dander and other pollutants as small as 0.01 microns (18,000 times smaller than the head of a pin). Air cleaners have efficiency ratings know as the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV). The higher the MERV, the more efficient the removal of particles.
We offer air cleaners with MERV 10 to MERV 15 values, as well as Whole House High Efficiency Particulate Arresting (HEPA) filtration systems for families with severe allergies.
Humidifiers
Proper humidity levels in your home are necessary to sustain indoor comfort during dry winter months. Humidifiers work with your furnace system to provide desired humidity levels. As moderate humidity levels make you feel warm at lower temperatures, correct humidity levels let you set your thermostat lower and stay comfortable.
Humidifier size is measured in gallons per day (GPD). Our models range from 12 to 18 GPD. Determination of the proper humidifier will depend on the size of your home.
Ventilators
Ventilators' distinctive energy exchange system transfer hot or cool energy from stale air being exhausted from your house to the fresh air being brought in. In this way, fresh air is brought in without losing heating or cooling energy.
Ventilators are especially important for families suffering from allergies, as ventilators are a much better alternative than opening your windows to let fresh air in. Ventilators also efficiently reduce cooking and pet odours, smoke and other pollutants.
UV Lights
Ultraviolet lamps are installed near existing indoor coils to work on ridding your home of bacteria, mold, viruses and germs impacting your home's and family's health. UV light kills mold and bacteria that may be growing on your coil before they are circulated throughout the home. One or two lights are installed per indoor coil depending on the size of the coil.
Thermostats
Thermostats control heating or cooling systems to bring your home to a set temperature. As well, programmable thermostats can manage the indoor environment at different times of the day or week. This type of automatic control can dramatically change the energy use of your home.
We carry a complete array of thermostats. Contact us to help you choose the one most suited to your lifestyle.
Zoning
Zoning divides a home into areas with similar heating and cooling requirements and independently controls the temperature in each area. Similar to multiple light switches that separately control lighting in different rooms, zoning with multiple thermostats or sensors controls the temperature in different home areas. This can provide energy savings and increase comfort. Contact us for an in-home evaluation and estimate.
Boilers
Like furnaces, energy efficiency of boilers is measured as the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE). Since 1992, boilers must have been manufactured with an AFUE of at least 80%.
If your home has hot water radiators for heat, you have a boiler to heat the water. We offer a complete line of gas and oil boilers with minimum AFUE ratings of 80%.
